Chimney Maintenance

Bird & Nest Removal

Safe removal of bird nests from chimneys and flues — a summer priority across Cumbria where jackdaws and starlings nest in unused chimney pots from spring onwards.

About Our Bird & Nest Removal Service

Birds — particularly jackdaws — build nests in unused chimneys during spring and early summer. A jackdaw nest can completely block a flue and, if left, prevents any safe use of the fire or appliance below: lighting a fire in a blocked flue risks carbon monoxide backing up into the property. We remove nests using purpose-made tools, clearing the full flue length of compacted nesting material. Where birds are still actively nesting with eggs or chicks present, we advise on the appropriate timing to comply with UK wildlife protection legislation — active nests cannot legally be disturbed. After nest removal we check for any remaining blockage and recommend fitting a correctly sized cowl or bird guard to prevent re-nesting the following season.
